Lets start with the basics. My name is Dan, and I love ski touring. About half way through the 2011/2012 season, I had ski toured about 10,000 vertical meters, and I anticipated finishing the season on about 20,000 vertical meters. I enjoy goal setting, so I thought to myself 'maybe next year I should see if I can ski tour 50,000 vertical meters. Unfortunately my enthusiasm got the better of me, and by the end of the 2011/2012 season I had toured around 40,000 meters. Suddenly 50,000 meters didn't really seem like a challenge anymore, so I decided to up the ante, and set myself the goal of 100,000 meters for the 2012/2013 season.
Obviously my goal of 100,000m is considerably less than Greg Hill's world record of 2,000,000 feet in one calendar year, but I'm hoping it will still be interesting enough to be worth blogging about. I'm also self imposing the rule upon myself that I won't go on any missions alone.
I am anticipating my reluctance to travel alone to be one of the biggest hurdles in achieving my goal. Logistically it can be difficult to always find a partner with the appropriate level of fitness and experience, who also has the enthusiasm for big trips, who also has the same days off work that you do! But hopefully this will do nothing but encourage me to expand my reservoir of ski touring partners, which can only be beneficial in the long run.
So on that note, if you would like to come touring with me someday, any day for that matter, don't hesitate to give me a call, and we'll go and ski some pow :-)
